Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBP) ist ein wichtiges Enzym im Glukosestoffwechsel. Es katalysiert die Hydrolyse von Fructose-1,6-bisphosphat zu Fructose-6-phosphat und anorganischem Phosphat. Fructose-6-phosphat-Kinase wandelt Fructose-6-phosphat in Fructose-1,6-bisphosphat im geschwindigkeitsbestimmenden Schritt des Glykolysezyklus um.

Fructose-6-phosphat-Kinase von Bacillus stearothermophilus wurde gezeigt, dass sie mit der neuronalen Stickstoffmonoxid-Synthase (nNOS) interagiert, was zu einem Defekt im glykolytischen Stoffwechsel und einer erhöhten Ermüdbarkeit in dystrophischem Muskel führt.
